Visit Brighton

Brighton is a town on the South coast of England. Brighton started out as the fishing village of Brighthelmstone, which was mentioned in the doomseday book but it developed in to Brighton the holiday destination after the Prince Regent visited in 1783 and built a weekend pallace, The Pavillion. Brighton had a surge in popularity when the railways cam to town as it became easily accessible from London. You can now get to Brighton from London in well under an hour. The city is popular with both day-trippers and people on more long term vacations, there are plenty of hotels and hostels, and a stay is pretty essential on the backpacker's tour of the UK. Cheap Brighton accommodation is at a premium! So what to do? The beach while stony is a great place to go, plenty of cafes, pubs, clubs (there is a lot of night-life on the beach) or simply people watch. The Laines are the network of narrow passageways that snake their way from the seafront, through the city centre and up to the station. This is the real heart of the city, full of eccentric characters, strange shops, interesting bars and restaurants. One of the best places for a cheap Brighton meal. The main shopping centre is Western Road which contains Churchill Square shopping mall. Here you will find all the big names in one convenient location. Its busy and you could spend the whole day in there. Kemptown to the east is a little different from the main ciry and is worth a look if you are down for more than a day. It has a different character and is like a separete town centre. If you are visiting England, I would recommend scheduling a visit Brighton, even if it is for the day, being so close to London, it is cheap to get to and you are bound to have a great time! |
